Last updated 29 September 2026 by the Ava Travel team in Hanoi. Every price on this page comes from the 146 private tours we currently list, as printed on each tour page for travel around November 2026, two adults sharing a room.

The short answer, using Ava Travel's own prices: a private tour of Vietnam with your own guide and driver booked with Ava Travel costs about $127 per person per day for two people sharing a room in 3 and 4-star hotels, and about $218 per person per day with 5-star hotels. A typical 2-week north to south trip is about $1,824 per person. The price per person drops by about a fifth when four of you travel together, and is about three quarters higher if you travel alone. International flights are not included, and on most routes neither are the one or two domestic flights.

Most cost guides give you a range. This one is built from the full list of 146 private Vietnam tours on the Ava Travel site, 7 to 24 days long, using the price we actually show for each one.

Private Vietnam tour cost per day

Per person, per day, two adults sharing a room. "Typical range" is the middle half of our tours, so a quarter cost less and a quarter cost more.

Hotel levelToursTypical range per dayMedian per day (Ava Travel)
3 and 4-star (most tours)136$114 to $132$127
5-star10$200 to $234$218

That daily figure covers your hotel with breakfast, a private English-speaking guide, a private car and driver, entrance fees, the meals listed in the itinerary and, on most tours, one night on a Halong Bay cruise. Of the 1,342 hotel nights across these tours, 81% are in 3-star hotels, so the standard tours are good mid-range rather than boutique. Moving up to 5-star costs about $91 more per person per day.

Total price by trip length

Per person, two adults sharing, standard tours (3 and 4-star hotels).

LengthToursCheapestMedianMost expensive
7 days17$498$720$858
8 days12$657$906$1,269
9 days16$893$1,081$1,511
10 days11$1,078$1,220$1,623
12 days11$1,255$1,421$1,611
14 days14$1,534$1,824$1,973
15 days13$1,614$1,991$2,235
21 days5$2,662$2,695$2,739

The spread within each length comes from the route more than the hotels. Trips that stay in the north, such as Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay, sit at the cheap end because there are no domestic legs. Trips into the far north mountains (Ha Giang, Sapa) or with extra cruise nights sit at the top. See real examples in our 2-week Vietnam itineraries with prices.

How group size changes the price

On a private tour the guide and car cost the same whether they carry two people or six, so the price per person falls as your group grows. Median across all our tours, compared with two people sharing:

TravellersPer person vs twoExample: classic 14 days
1, travelling soloabout 76% more$3,185
2, sharing a roombase price$1,835
3, sharing rooms12% less$1,617
4, sharing rooms21% less$1,471
6, sharing rooms29% less$1,330
8, sharing rooms28% less$1,343

Two things to know. The saving stops at around six or seven people: for eight the price per person goes up again, because the group needs a bigger vehicle. And if two people want separate rooms, add about $37 per person per night.

What is included, and what is not

Included in the tour price

  • Hotels as listed, with daily breakfast ("or similar" if a hotel is full on your dates)
  • A private English-speaking guide and a private air-conditioned car with driver
  • Entrance fees for the sights in the itinerary
  • The meals listed day by day: every breakfast, lunch on most touring days, and one or two dinners
  • On most tours, one night on a Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay cruise with all meals on board
  • Airport pickup and drop-off, and WhatsApp support during the trip

Not included, budget for these separately

  • International flights
  • Domestic flights on most routes. A Hanoi to Saigon trip usually needs two (for example Hanoi to Da Nang, Hue to Saigon). We add them to your quote at the airline's own fare for your date, not a marked-up estimate
  • The Vietnam e-visa, US$25 per person, applied for online
  • Travel insurance, which we ask every traveller to have
  • Dinners on most nights, drinks, tips for guides and drivers, and optional activities

Worked example: two people, 14 days, north to south

Our classic Hanoi to Saigon 14-day tour, for a couple sharing rooms:

ItemFor 2 people
Tour price ($1,835 per person x 2)$3,670
Vietnam e-visa (US$25 x 2)$50
2 domestic flightsat airline fare, quoted separately
Dinners, drinks and tips (your choice)not fixed
Land cost you can count on$3,720

That is $131 per person per day for the land part, with a guide and car every day, 13 hotel nights and a night on Halong Bay.

Is a private tour worth it compared with travelling on your own?

If you are comfortable booking your own buses, trains and hotels, travelling on your own is cheaper. A careful independent traveller can see much of the same route for considerably less. What the private tour buys you is time and certainty: nobody waits for a bus, the guide explains what you are looking at, transfers are door to door, and if a flight moves or it rains on the bay day, someone rearranges the plan for you. It suits first-time visitors, families, older travellers and anyone with two weeks of holiday rather than two months.

Where it is not worth it: if your budget is under about $70 per person per day including hotels, a private tour will feel squeezed. Small-group tours or independent travel will serve you better, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a tour you will not enjoy.

How to lower the price

  • Travel as four. Two couples together pay about 21% less each than one couple.
  • Cut a domestic flight. Staying in the north and centre (Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An) needs one flight at most, or the train.
  • Ask about your dates. Prices for a specific date move by around 7 percent either way from the figures on this page, depending on the season and hotel availability.
  • Spend the money where it shows. Many travellers keep 3-star hotels in the cities, where they are out all day, and upgrade only the cruise night or the beach resort.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 2-week private tour of Vietnam cost?

For two people sharing, a 14-day private tour with 3 and 4-star hotels costs about $1,824 per person with Ava Travel, with our tours ranging from $1,534 to $1,973. With 5-star hotels expect about $2,813 per person. International and most domestic flights are extra.

How much is a private tour of Vietnam per day?

With Ava Travel, about $127 per person per day for two people sharing in 3 and 4-star hotels, and about $218 per day with 5-star hotels. That includes hotels, a private guide and driver, entrance fees and listed meals.

Is it cheaper to travel Vietnam as a group?

Yes. On a private tour the guide and car are shared, so four people pay about 21% less each than two, and six people about 29% less. Above seven people a larger vehicle is needed and the saving stops.

How much more does a solo traveller pay?

A solo traveller on a private tour pays about 76% more than each person in a couple, because the guide, car and room are not shared.

Are domestic flights included in Vietnam tour prices?

On most of our tours, no. We add them to your quote at the airline's fare for your date. Routes that stay in the north and centre often need no flight or just one.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes, a 30% deposit confirms a private tour, and the due date for the balance is written on your quote. Asking us to plan and price a trip is free.
