Mon Cheri is a ship built in 2018 with 18 cabins, working Lan Ha Bay out of Tuan Chau. Every cabin has a balcony and the smallest is 35 sqm, which is larger than the entry cabin on most boats at this price.
What Mon Cheri is good at
The second day is different from almost every other Lan Ha itinerary Ava sells. Instead of only paddling through Dark and Bright Cave, Mon Cheri puts you ashore on Cat Ba Island to walk Trung Trang Cave. If you have already done a Halong cruise and want the second one to feel like a different trip, that land stop is the reason to pick this ship.
Day one goes into the Tra Bau area, a quieter corner than the main anchorages. There is a jacuzzi pool on deck for anyone who would rather stay on board while the group goes ashore.
Choosing a cabin
One thing to look at closely. The Ocean Suite triple cabin is 35 sqm with an extra bed added to a double, and it costs $500. The Mon Cheri Suite is 50 sqm and costs $470. So the triple is the smaller room and the dearer one; it earns its price only if you genuinely need three beds.
For two people the sensible ladder is Ocean Suite at 35 sqm for $330, Elegance Suite at 45 sqm for $370, or Mon Cheri Suite at 50 sqm for $470. The President Suite is 70 sqm at $650 and is the largest cabin on any ship in this price band.
