Lan Ha Bay cruise overview
La Casta Regal is a 2020 ship with 24 cabins on Lan Ha Bay. Ava also sells its sister, La Casta, and the two are easy to confuse, so here is the difference.
Regal or the original La Casta?
Regal has the shorter road transfer: about 2.5 hours from the Old Quarter, against 3 hours for La Casta. On a two-day trip that is an hour of your life.
La Casta has the bigger top cabin (70 sqm against 60) and a genuine family triple, which Regal does not have. So: two of you and short on time, take Regal. Three of you, or you want the largest room going, take La Casta.
Choosing a cabin
Junior and Senior Suite are both 28 sqm, $300 and $320, so that $20 is deck position.
The two Honeymoon Suites are the real choice. Balcony is 50 sqm at $340; Terrace is 60 sqm at $380. Forty dollars buys ten extra square metres and a terrace instead of a balcony. If you are going to sit outside with a coffee in the morning, the Terrace earns it.
Neither Honeymoon Suite requires you to be honeymooning.
Before you book
Pickup is 08:30 to 09:00 from the Hanoi Old Quarter with a pit stop midway, then a boat out from Tuan Chau Port. The transfer is charged separately.
Meals, entrance fees, kayaking, Tai Chi and the cooking class are in the fare. On board there is also a spa, a gym and a seasonal swimming pool.

Morning
If you take the shuttle, pickup is 08:30 to 09:00 from the Hanoi Old Quarter. It is a 2.5-hour drive with a pit stop on the way. From Tuan Chau Port you go out to the ship by boat.
Afternoon
Check-in, welcome drink and safety briefing, then lunch while La Casta Regal heads into Lan Ha Bay. At 15:45 the ship reaches Ba Trai Dao and its lagoon for kayaking and swimming, or Light Cave by bamboo boat in poor weather.
