Bai Tu Long Bay cruise overview

What Athena Royal is good at
Thien Canh Son Cave on the second morning is a real excursion rather than a look from a boat. There are close to 200 stone steps up to the cave, stalactites inside, and a sandy beach at the bottom with a view back across Bai Tu Long. Bring shoes you can climb in.
Because the route stays in Bai Tu Long, you see a fraction of the boat traffic that the main bay carries.
Choosing a cabin
The sizes climb steadily here, which makes the choice easier than on most ships: Deluxe Balcony 25 sqm at $280, Elegance Balcony 28 sqm at $330, Premium Suite 30 sqm at $405, Royal Suite 45 sqm at $556.
Be honest with yourself about the Deluxe. At 25 sqm it is the smallest cabin of any ship on this page, and it is the entry price for a reason. The Elegance at $330 is only $50 more for three extra square metres and a better position.
The Royal Suite is a genuine step up at 45 sqm, but it costs twice the Deluxe.
Before you book
Departure is from Halong International Cruise Port (SunGroup), not Tuan Chau. Transfer by shuttle or private car is not in the cabin price, and a tender runs you out to the ship.
Meals, entrance fees, kayaking, Tai Chi and the cooking class are in the fare. Spa is charged on board.

Morning
Transfer to Halong International Cruise Port by shuttle bus or private car (not included in the cabin price).

A tender takes you out to the main vessel. Welcome drink, a short introduction and the safety briefing, then check in to your cabin and lunch as Athena heads into Bai Tu Long. The afternoon is in the Cong Do area, for kayaking under the cliffs and swimming from the beach.

Tai Chi on the sundeck for early risers, then a light breakfast.
