Halong Bay cruise overview
Hermes is a ship from 2022 with 18 cabins, and the one boat in this group that stays on Halong Bay proper rather than crossing to the quieter southern bays.
Why the route matters
Most new ships have moved south to quieter water. Hermes has not, and for a first visit that is an advantage: the sights everyone pictures when they think of Halong are on this side. Over two days you get Luon Cave, Ti Top Island with its viewpoint climb and beach, and Surprise Cave, which at around 10,000 sqm is the largest cave in the bay.
If this is your first time in Halong, take Hermes. If you have already seen those three and want somewhere emptier, ask Ava about a ship on a quieter route instead.
Choosing a cabin
Four types with a genuine jump in the middle. Junior 28 sqm at $320 and Senior 30 sqm at $350 are close enough that the upgrade is marginal. The Royal Suite is 47 sqm at $470, which is more than half again the space for $120.
The President Suite is 64 sqm at $570 and is the largest room on board. All four have balconies.
Before you book
Pickup from the Hanoi Old Quarter is a surcharge, about 2.5 hours to Tuan Chau harbour. You are back alongside at roughly 11:30 on day two.
