Lan Ha Bay cruise overview

Heritage Line Ginger is a wooden ship with 12 cabins on Lan Ha Bay, built in 2006. It is the most expensive boat on this page, starting at $690, and it is a genuinely different product from everything below it.

What the money is for

Twelve cabins on a timber hull, with a crew sized for twenty-four guests. The cheapest room is 37 sqm, which is larger than the top suite on several ships costing a third as much. Meals are cooked to order rather than plated in batches, and the second morning goes to Ao Ech, a secluded spot rather than the caves every other boat queues at.

Ava also sells Heritage Binh Chuan, the same operator's larger 20-suite ship, from $360. Binh Chuan is the one to take if you want the Heritage Line style at half the price. Ginger is the one to take if you want the small boat.

Choosing a cabin

Junior Suite and Signature Suite are both 37 sqm, $690 and $820. That $130 buys deck position, not floor area, and at this level that is worth saying out loud.

The Regent Suite is 50 sqm at $1,050 and is the only cabin here that is genuinely bigger.

All three have balconies.

Before you book

Check-in is at the pier by 11:30. Transfer from Hanoi is charged separately.

Ava confirms your cabin and pickup within one hour of booking.

Is Heritage Line Ginger Cruise worth it? Our 2026 verdict

Heritage Line Ginger Cruise is a 5-star cruise on Lan Ha Bay with 12 cabins. It is worth it if you want what it does best: every cabin has a private balcony. The main thing to weigh up: it is priced above most 5-star ships on Lan Ha Bay: from $430 per person in high season, against a typical $170.

Good reasons to pick it

  • Every cabin has a private balcony.
  • With only 12 cabins it is a small boat, so activities rarely feel crowded.
  • Even the entry cabin is 37 m².

Worth knowing before you book

  • It is priced above most 5-star ships on Lan Ha Bay: from $430 per person in high season, against a typical $170.
  • There is no family room, so a family of four needs two cabins.
  • It only sells 2 days 1 night on our site.

Best for: couples.

The 2 days · 1 night itinerary

Day 1

Tuan Chau – Viet Hai Village – Lan Ha Bay

11:30
Meet at the Heritage Line lounge, Tuan Chau Marina, for a short speedboat transfer to the ship.

Afternoon
Board Ginger with a welcome drink, take the cruise briefing, then into your cabin. Lunch is served in the ship's dining room as she works out into Lan Ha Bay.

The ship moors near Cat Ba Island and you go ashore to cycle through Viet Hai Village, in a jungle valley reached only by sea. Back on board, the ship moves to its overnight anchorage for a hands-on cooking class.

Evening
Dinner on board.

Day 2

Ao Ech and back to Hanoi

Morning
Worth being up for the Tai Chi session on the sundeck. Coffee, tea and pastries are laid out in the dining room.

Ginger then sails to Ao Ech, the Frog Pond area. It is a secluded spot and the reason to do the morning excursion here rather than sleep in: no other boats, no queue for the kayaks.

Back on board to check out, then brunch on the way in.

Meals included: breakfast, brunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for planning a Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay overnight cruise with Ava Travel.

Halong Bay is approximately 160km east of Hanoi, usually about a 3 to 3.5-hour drive by expressway. Ava Travel can arrange shared shuttle or private transfer from Hanoi and confirm the exact pickup time before you book.
Lan Ha Bay is the southern extension of Halong Bay, near Cat Ba Island. It has similar limestone scenery but often feels quieter. Many premium cruises operate around Lan Ha Bay for a calmer overnight route.
A 2-day / 1-night cruise works well if your schedule is short and you want the classic overnight experience. A 3-day / 2-night cruise gives more time for kayaking, swimming, remote areas, and a slower pace.
The best months are usually October to April, when the weather is cooler and drier. Summer can still be beautiful, but rain and storm changes are more common, so Ava Travel checks weather and operator updates before departure.
Most overnight cruises include cabin accommodation, onboard meals, entrance fees for the scheduled route, and activities such as kayaking, cave visits, swimming, cooking class, or squid fishing. Drinks, spa, tips, and transfers depend on the cruise package and are confirmed before payment.
Send Ava Travel your travel date, group size, and cabin preference. We check live availability, confirm the best current price, explain inclusions, and help you complete secure checkout once everything is clear.
