Ha Giang tour overview

Why this trip

  • The same three day loop run the other way round: north to Dong Van first, Du Gia last.
  • You reach the plateau on day one while most groups are still heading for Du Gia.
  • Ends with a slow morning at the Du Gia waterfall before the ride home.
  • Local driver on every bike, one passenger each.

An honest note: Day one is the longer day on this route, because Dong Van is further from Ha Giang city than Du Gia is.

Price

$185 per person on a small group departure of up to 10 people. Solo travellers pay the same price.

Want the same route without other travellers? Ask us for a private departure and we quote the total before you pay.

Children. We do not put children under 12 on the back of a motorbike on these roads. For families, the same routes run by private car.

How it works

  1. Book and confirm. Pay at checkout or message us on WhatsApp first. We confirm your date, the meeting point and your guide within one hour, and tell you what to bring.
  2. On the bike. Your driver handles the road. You wear a helmet, keep your bag small and hold on. If you want to stop for a photo, tap your driver on the shoulder.
  3. The nights. Homestays are simple: mattress, blankets, a shared bathroom with hot water, and dinner with the family. Small hotels in the towns have private bathrooms.
  4. The permit. Since June 2026 foreign visitors need a border area permit for Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac. Bring your passport. Your guide arranges the permit against it.

What to bring

Pack small. Leave large luggage in Hanoi or at your hotel in Ha Giang city.

  • Your passport, for the border area permit
  • A warm layer. The passes are cold from October to March
  • A windproof layer and gloves. It is cold on the passes in an open vehicle, even in summer
  • Rain jacket or poncho, whatever the forecast says
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Cash in Vietnamese dong for drinks and small purchases
  • One change of clothes per night and a small towel
  • A headlamp or charged phone. Villages are dark at night

Getting to Ha Giang from Hanoi

Ha Giang city is six to seven hours from Hanoi. Most people take the overnight sleeper bus and arrive early in the morning. This tour starts in Ha Giang city, so the bus is not included in the price above. We book it for you if you want it and show you the fare before you pay.
