What $220 buys, and what it does not
It buys a night on the water in Halong Bay with all meals, the cave visit, kayaking and a Tai Chi class, on a timber boat that has been working the bay for fifteen years. For two people that is $110 each including food, which is less than a decent hotel room in Hanoi.
It does not buy a new ship, a jacuzzi or a large cabin. Syrena is the budget end of what Ava is willing to put its name to, and we would rather say so plainly than dress it up.
Choosing a cabin
Two types, $20 apart. Deluxe at $220 has no balcony. Deluxe Balcony at $240 does. Take the balcony; twenty dollars is not worth arguing about and a door onto the bay changes the morning.
The operator does not publish floor areas for this boat. Ava will not invent them. Ask and we will get them from the operator.
Before you book
Lunch on day one is a Vietnamese buffet. Day two visits Luon Cave, which involves a bit of clambering rather than sitting in a boat.
Meals, entrance fees, kayaking, Tai Chi and the cooking class are in the fare. Transfer from Hanoi is charged separately.
