Scenery
Halong Bay is the classic: thousands of limestone islands rising from a turquoise sea. The scale is extraordinary — you feel genuinely small in the middle of it. It’s one of the world’s most iconic landscapes.
Ninh Binh offers a completely different version of the same geology — limestone karsts rising from flat rice paddies and river valleys. The Tam Coc area (three river caves) is particularly beautiful. Ninh Binh also has the Hoa Lu ancient capital and Bich Dong Pagoda, giving it a cultural dimension that Halong Bay lacks.
Time Required
Halong Bay: Minimum 2 days/1 night (the overnight experience is the point). Best with 3 days.
