Halong Bay cruise overview

Starlight is a ship from 2013 with 32 cabins on Halong Bay, and it has one of the clearest buying decisions of any boat Ava sells.

Take the Suite

Three cabin types, twenty-five dollars apart end to end: Deluxe $265, Executive $280, Suite $290.

Deluxe and Executive have no balcony. The Suite does. So $25 over the cheapest room on the ship is the difference between a window and a door onto Halong Bay, and it is the only cabin on board that has one. There is no reason to book anything else here unless the Suites are full.

What the two days hold

The drive is 2.5 hours, shorter than most Halong departures. Lunch is at 13:15 on day one. Day two has a slow start by design: morning tea with biscuits and fruit runs 07:00 to 08:00 before the excursion to Luon Cave, which you can do by kayak or sitting in a sampan.

Being a 32-cabin ship it is steady at anchor and has plenty of deck, which suits anyone who does not love small boats.

Before you book

The operator does not publish cabin floor areas. Ava will not invent numbers; ask us and we will get them from the operator before you commit.

Meals, entrance fees, kayaking, Tai Chi and the cooking class are in the fare. Spa is charged on board. Transfer from Hanoi is separate.

Ava confirms your cabin and pickup within one hour of booking.

Is Starlight Cruise worth it? Our 2026 verdict

Starlight Cruise is a 5-star cruise on Halong Bay with 32 cabins. It is worth it if you want what it does best: it costs less than most 5-star ships on Halong Bay: from $145 per person in high season, against a typical $190. The main thing to weigh up: there is no family room, so a family of four needs two cabins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for planning a Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay overnight cruise with Ava Travel.

Halong Bay is approximately 160km east of Hanoi, usually about a 3 to 3.5-hour drive by expressway. Ava Travel can arrange shared shuttle or private transfer from Hanoi and confirm the exact pickup time before you book.
Lan Ha Bay is the southern extension of Halong Bay, near Cat Ba Island. It has similar limestone scenery but often feels quieter. Many premium cruises operate around Lan Ha Bay for a calmer overnight route.
A 2-day / 1-night cruise works well if your schedule is short and you want the classic overnight experience. A 3-day / 2-night cruise gives more time for kayaking, swimming, remote areas, and a slower pace.
The best months are usually October to April, when the weather is cooler and drier. Summer can still be beautiful, but rain and storm changes are more common, so Ava Travel checks weather and operator updates before departure.
Most overnight cruises include cabin accommodation, onboard meals, entrance fees for the scheduled route, and activities such as kayaking, cave visits, swimming, cooking class, or squid fishing. Drinks, spa, tips, and transfers depend on the cruise package and are confirmed before payment.
Send Ava Travel your travel date, group size, and cabin preference. We check live availability, confirm the best current price, explain inclusions, and help you complete secure checkout once everything is clear.
