Halong Bay cruise overview

Oriental Sails is a wooden junk from 2014 with 18 cabins, and at $220 it sits at the very bottom of what Ava sells on Halong Bay.

One cabin, one price

There is a single category on this boat: Deluxe, two people, no balcony, $220. Nothing to compare and nothing to upgrade to. That simplicity is most of the appeal — you are not being walked up a ladder of suites.

Ava also sells Syrena at the same $220 entry. The difference is that Syrena offers a balcony cabin for $20 more and leaves from Tuan Chau, while Oriental Sails has no balcony option at all and departs from Halong International Cruise Port, which is a 3-hour drive rather than 2.5.

What the two days hold

Day one is the crossing and the anchorage. Day two is Luon Cave, and here you get a real choice: take a sampan and be rowed through, or take a kayak and work for it. Most boats decide that for you.

The operator does not publish the cabin floor area. Ava will not guess at it; ask and we will get it from them.

Before you book

Shuttle pickup is at 08:00 from your hotel, charged separately, arriving at the port around midday.

Meals, entrance fees, kayaking, Tai Chi and the cooking class are in the fare. There is no spa on board.

Ava confirms your cabin and pickup within one hour of booking.

Is Oriental Sails worth it? Our 2026 verdict

Oriental Sails is a 3-star cruise on Halong Bay with 18 cabins. It is worth it if you want what it does best: it also runs a 3 days 2 nights trip, from $215 per person (May to September). The main thing to weigh up: there is no family room, so a family of four needs two cabins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for planning a Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay overnight cruise with Ava Travel.

Halong Bay is approximately 160km east of Hanoi, usually about a 3 to 3.5-hour drive by expressway. Ava Travel can arrange shared shuttle or private transfer from Hanoi and confirm the exact pickup time before you book.
Lan Ha Bay is the southern extension of Halong Bay, near Cat Ba Island. It has similar limestone scenery but often feels quieter. Many premium cruises operate around Lan Ha Bay for a calmer overnight route.
A 2-day / 1-night cruise works well if your schedule is short and you want the classic overnight experience. A 3-day / 2-night cruise gives more time for kayaking, swimming, remote areas, and a slower pace.
The best months are usually October to April, when the weather is cooler and drier. Summer can still be beautiful, but rain and storm changes are more common, so Ava Travel checks weather and operator updates before departure.
Most overnight cruises include cabin accommodation, onboard meals, entrance fees for the scheduled route, and activities such as kayaking, cave visits, swimming, cooking class, or squid fishing. Drinks, spa, tips, and transfers depend on the cruise package and are confirmed before payment.
Send Ava Travel your travel date, group size, and cabin preference. We check live availability, confirm the best current price, explain inclusions, and help you complete secure checkout once everything is clear.
