How it works
- Book and confirm. Pay at checkout or message us on WhatsApp first. We confirm your date, the meeting point and your guide within one hour, and tell you what to bring.
- On the day. The van collects guests from several hotels, so the pickup can run 15 to 30 minutes late. Your guide stays with the group all day and handles the tickets and the boats.
- The nights. You stay near Tam Coc in a private room with its own bathroom. Evenings in Tam Coc are quiet, with a few cafes and restaurants along the river.
What to bring
- Comfortable walking shoes with grip
- Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. The boats have no shade
- Water, especially for the steps at Hang Mua
- Rain jacket or poncho from June to September
- Clothes that cover shoulders and knees for the temples and pagodas
- Cash in Vietnamese dong for drinks, small purchases and a tip for your rower
- An overnight bag. Leave large luggage at your hotel in Hanoi

Your itinerary
Hanoi to Hoa Lu, Trang An and Hang Mua
Meals: lunch and dinner. Overnight: a bungalow homestay near Tam Coc.
- Morning: pickup from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter and about two hours south to Ninh Binh.
- Hoa Lu, the capital of Vietnam in the 10th century: the temples of King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh, in a quiet valley between the hills.
- Lunch at a local restaurant, with vegetarian dishes on request.
- Trang An by rowing boat: about two to three hours on the river, under low caves cut through the limestone and past small temples built on the water. The local rower takes you, so you just sit.
- Late afternoon: Hang Mua at sunset. About 500 steps up to the viewpoint.
- Evening: check in near Tam Coc and dinner.
Tam Coc, Van Long and back to Hanoi
Meals: breakfast and lunch.
- Breakfast at the homestay.
- Tam Coc by rowing boat: about two hours along the Ngo Dong river through three caves and between rice fields at the foot of the karst. The rowers often row with their feet.
- A bicycle ride through the villages and rice fields around Tam Coc, on flat lanes with the karst either side.
- Lunch.
- Van Long wetland reserve by bamboo boat, quiet and less visited than Tam Coc.
- Late afternoon: the drive back to Hanoi, arriving at your hotel in the evening.
