Lan Ha Bay cruise overview
La Casta is a 2020 ship with 22 cabins on Lan Ha Bay. Ava also sells La Casta Regal, its sister, so start with which of the two you want.
La Casta or Regal?
La Casta has the bigger rooms and the family cabin. The President VIP Terrace Suite is 70 sqm; Regal tops out at 60. And there is a genuine Family Triple at 40 sqm for $480, which Regal does not offer at all.
Regal has the shorter drive: 2.5 hours against 3 hours here.
So three of you, or two of you who want the largest cabin on either ship, take La Casta. Two of you who would rather not spend an extra hour in a van, take Regal.
Choosing a cabin
Junior and Senior Suite are both 30 sqm, $300 and $320, so that $20 is deck position rather than space.
The step that matters is the VIP Suite Balcony at 50 sqm for $340 — twenty extra square metres for $20 over the Senior. That is the best value on the ship by a distance, and unless it is full there is little reason to book below it.
Above that, the President VIP Terrace Suite is 70 sqm at $390. Every cabin has a balcony.
Before you book
Pickup is 08:30 to 09:00 from the Old Quarter, about 3 hours with a pit stop, then out from Tuan Chau Port by boat. Transfer is charged separately.
Meals, entrance fees, kayaking, Tai Chi and the cooking class are in the fare. On board there is also a spa and an outdoor jacuzzi pool on the third deck.

Tuan Chau – Lan Ha Bay – Ba Trai Dao
Morning
If you take the shuttle, pickup is 08:30 to 09:00 from the Hanoi Old Quarter. Allow about 3 hours with a pit stop midway. Check in at station 17, Tuan Chau Marina, then about 25 minutes by speedboat to La Casta.
Afternoon
Check-in and the safety briefing, then lunch while the ship heads into Lan Ha Bay. At 15:45 the ship reaches Ba Trai Dao and its lagoon for kayaking and swimming, or Light Cave by bamboo boat in poor weather.
Evening
Cooking class and dinner on board.
Tra Bau – Tuan Chau
Morning
Early risers get the sunrise over Lan Ha, and there is a Tai Chi session on the top deck. Coffee is worth taking outside for it.
Breakfast on board, then kayaking or a swim at Tra Bau.
Back aboard to check out, then brunch while La Casta returns to Tuan Chau.
