Ha Giang tour overview

The Ha Giang Loop by private car, at a pace that leaves room for the far north as well. Four days instead of three means an extra day around Dong Van to reach the Lung Cu flag tower on the Chinese border and walk through Lung Cam, a village of earthen H’mong houses.

It suits anyone who wants to see the loop without riding it: families, couples who have not been on a motorbike before, or anyone who would rather look out of the window than at the road. You stop where you want.

The route. Day one climbs from Ha Giang city to the Quan Ba Heaven Gate and spends the night in Du Gia. Day two is the Nho Que canyon by boat and the Ma Pi Leng pass above it, ending in Dong Van. Day three goes north to Lung Cu and back through Sa Phin and Lung Cam. The last day runs south through Yen Minh to Ha Giang.

Where you sleep. A family homestay in Du Gia on the first night and two nights in Dong Van, in private rooms.

Getting there. The tour starts and ends in Ha Giang city. Most people take the overnight sleeper bus from Hanoi. We can book it, or arrange a private transfer.

The permit. Since June 2026 foreign visitors need a border area permit to enter Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac. It costs $10 per person, it is included in this price, and your guide sorts it out.

Day 1

Ha Giang city to Du Gia through Quan Ba

  • Meals: lunch and dinner. Overnight: family homestay in Du Gia.

    • Morning: meet your driver and guide in Ha Giang city and head north on the road to Quan Ba.
    • Stop at the Quan Ba Heaven Gate viewpoint, looking down over the Tam Son valley.
    • Lunch on the way, then the Lung Tam linen weaving village, where H’mong families still grow and weave hemp.
    • Afternoon: turn off the main loop towards Du Gia, a quiet valley of rice fields with a waterfall you can swim in when the water is warm enough.
    • Evening: dinner with the homestay family.
Day 2

Du Gia to Dong Van over the Ma Pi Leng pass

  • Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: hotel or homestay in Dong Van.

    • Morning: back up to the main road and on through Mau Due towards Meo Vac.
    • Lunch in Meo Vac.
    • Afternoon: boat on the Nho Que river through the bottom of the canyon, then drive the Ma Pi Leng pass above it, with stops at the viewpoints.
    • Arrive in Dong Van in the late afternoon. The old quarter is a short walk from where you stay.
Day 3

Dong Van to Lung Cu and back

  • Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: hotel or homestay in Dong Van.

    • Morning: drive north to the Lung Cu flag tower near the Chinese border, and climb the steps for the view over the terraces.
    • Lunch near Lung Cu.
    • Afternoon: the H’mong King Palace in Sa Phin, then Lung Cam, a village of earthen H’mong houses.
    • Evening back in Dong Van. If it is a Sunday, the market is on the next morning.
Day 4

Dong Van to Ha Giang city through Yen Minh

  • Meals: breakfast and lunch.

    • Morning: leave Dong Van and drive through the karst to Yen Minh, stopping where the road switchbacks down the valley.
    • Lunch in Yen Minh.
    • Afternoon: back over the Quan Ba pass to Ha Giang city, arriving in time for the evening bus to Hanoi.

Yes. We book buses, trains and private transfers alongside the tour and show you the fare before you pay, rather than leaving you to arrange it at a station or bus office.
