Hanoi tour overview

Why this trip

  • A day in Vietnam's oldest national park, founded in 1962, instead of the boat rides everyone else does.
  • The primate rescue center, the turtle center and a forest walk to the thousand year old tree.
  • Small group, hotel pickup in the Old Quarter and lunch in the park.
  • Good for walkers and anyone interested in wildlife.

An honest note: Cuc Phuong is about three hours from Hanoi each way. You are unlikely to see wild primates in the forest itself; the rescue center is where you see them.

How it works

  1. Book and confirm. Pay at checkout or message us on WhatsApp first. We confirm your date, the meeting point and your guide within one hour, and tell you what to bring.
  2. On the day. The van collects guests from several hotels, so the pickup can run 15 to 30 minutes late. Your guide stays with the group all day and handles the tickets and the boats.

What to bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes with grip
  • Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. The boats have no shade
  • Water, especially for the steps at Hang Mua
  • Rain jacket or poncho from June to September
  • Clothes that cover shoulders and knees for the temples and pagodas
  • Cash in Vietnamese dong for drinks, small purchases and a tip for your rower
  • Insect repellent and long socks for the forest

Getting there

Pickup and drop-off at your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter are included. Outside the Old Quarter, tell us the address and we confirm whether the van can reach it.

  • Meals: lunch.

    • Morning: pickup from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter and about three hours to Cuc Phuong.

    • The Turtle Conservation Center next door, working with the freshwater turtles of northern Vietnam.
    • Lunch in the park.
    • A walk on the forest trail to the thousand year old tree, a giant Parashorea in the middle of the park. Around two hours return on a rooty, sometimes muddy path.
    • Late afternoon: the drive back to Hanoi, arriving in the evening.
