How it works

  1. Book and confirm. Pay at checkout or message us on WhatsApp first. We confirm your date, the meeting point and your guide within one hour, and tell you what to bring.
  2. On the day. The van collects guests from several hotels, so the pickup can run 15 to 30 minutes late. Your guide stays with the group all day and handles the tickets and the boats.

What to bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes with grip
  • Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. The boats have no shade
  • Water, especially for the steps at Hang Mua
  • Rain jacket or poncho from June to September
  • Clothes that cover shoulders and knees for the temples and pagodas
  • Cash in Vietnamese dong for drinks, small purchases and a tip for your rower

Getting there

Pickup and drop-off at your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter are included. Outside the Old Quarter, tell us the address and we confirm whether the van can reach it.

Your itinerary

Hanoi to Bai Dinh, Trang

Hanoi to Bai Dinh, Trang An and Hang Mua

  • Meals: lunch.

    • Morning: pickup from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter and about two hours south to Ninh Binh.
    • Bai Dinh: a very large Buddhist complex on the hillside. An electric cart runs from the gate, then you walk the long covered corridor lined with stone arhat statues up to the main halls.
    • Lunch at a local restaurant, with vegetarian dishes on request.
    • Trang An by rowing boat: about two to three hours on the river, under low caves cut through the limestone and past small temples built on the water. The local rower takes you, so you just sit.
    • Hang Mua: about 500 stone steps up to the viewpoint over Tam Coc. It takes 20 to 30 minutes and is steep in places, so bring water. The view down the valley is the one on every Ninh Binh postcard.
    • Late afternoon: the drive back to Hanoi, arriving at your hotel in the evening.
