Halong Bay cruise overview
Emperor has 10 cabins. It is the smallest ship on this page and the whole boat is built around one idea: the Nguyen dynasty court at Hue.
A themed ship, done properly
The restaurant is called Can Chanh Palace, after the hall where the emperor held audience. The morning exercise class is Vovinam, the Vietnamese martial art, not the Tai Chi every other boat runs. Ten cabins means the crew know your name by dinner.
If a theme like that sounds like it might be thin, this is the one where it is not. If it sounds like a gimmick you would rather avoid, say so and Ava will point you at a plainer boat.
Choosing a cabin, and a real trade-off
Signature Suite and State Suite are both 43 sqm, $380 and $450, so that $70 is deck position.
The Royal Suite is 70 sqm at $520 but has no balcony. That is the decision on this ship: the biggest room on board, by a wide margin, in exchange for the only cabin you cannot step outside from. On a two-day trip where most of your time is on the sundeck anyway, plenty of people take it. Others would rather have 43 sqm and a door.

Emperor leaves from Lot 28, Tuan Chau Marina, about 2.5 hours from Hanoi, and the transfer is charged separately. Day two visits Luon Cave by bamboo boat; check-out is 09:00 to 09:15.
