Halong Bay cruise overview
Emeraude is the oldest ship Ava sells: built in 2003, 34 cabins, and modelled on the French colonial paddle steamer of the same name that worked this coast a century ago.
A different kind of boat
Everything about it is deliberately not a modern Halong cruiser. It is a large steel ship rather than a junk, laid out like an old river steamer, and it runs a yoga class on the sundeck in the morning where every other boat runs Tai Chi. Breakfast is a full buffet rather than pastries.
Check-in happens at the Emeraude Café at the harbour rather than a pier queue.
One thing to be clear about before you book
No cabin on this ship has a balcony. Not the cheapest, not the Emeraude Suite at $350. That is how the original steamer was laid out and the replica follows it. If a private outdoor space is part of what you want from a night on the bay, this is the wrong ship and Ava will say so.
What you get instead is a lot of shared deck on a big vessel, and the steadiest ride in this price band.
