A Powerful Journey Through Vietnam’s Historic Divide

Join us on a full-day adventure to the land that once marked the separation between North and South Vietnam. The Hue DMZ was more than just a line on the map, it was a landscape shaped by struggle, courage, and the hope for reunification. Today, the region stretches from the Laos border to the coastline, following the Ben Hai River near the 17th parallel, and is home to countless stories waiting to be rediscovered.

Our Hue DMZ Group Tour is designed for travelers who want more than a typical sightseeing trip. You’ll travel through landmarks that witnessed Vietnam’s most turbulent years: the infamous “Horror Highway,” the resilient Long Hung Church, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, Dakrong Bridge, Ta Con Airfield, the symbolic Hien Luong Bridge over the Ben Hai River, and the remarkable Vinh Moc Tunnel system with its dedicated museum.

It’s not just a tour. It’s an immersion into the past, a chance to understand the courage and endurance that shaped modern Vietnam.

Book this tour today and walk through living history on the most comprehensive DMZ tour from Hue!

Hue DMZ Group Tour from Hue – Full-Day Itinerary

07:30 AM
Our friendly English-speaking guide and comfortable air-conditioned vehicle will pick you up directly from your hotel in central Hue. We then head north along the scenic coastal road toward the historic Demilitarized Zone in Quang Tri province.

Morning Highlights – Reliving History

1. Highway of Horror (National Route 1)
A sobering stop along the infamous stretch of road where, on May 1, 1972, thousands of fleeing civilians and soldiers lost their lives in one of the war’s most tragic massacres.

2. Long Hung Church
One of the only structures still standing in Quang Tri town after the devastating “Summer of Fire” in 1972. Its bullet-scarred walls stand as a silent witness to the intensity of the fighting.

3. Quang Tri Ancient Citadel
Site of the brutal 81-day battle in 1972. Once nearly obliterated by relentless bombing, the citadel is now a peaceful memorial honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who fought here.

4. Dakrong Bridge & Ethnic Minority Village
Marking the northern gateway to the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail network, this modern suspension bridge replaced the one destroyed and rebuilt countless times during the war. Along the way, enjoy a brief encounter with a nearby Pa Co (or Ta Oi) minority village and experience their unique highland culture.

5. Khe Sanh Combat Base (Ta Con Airport)
Explore the excellent on-site museum and outdoor exhibit of captured American aircraft, tanks, and helicopters from the famous 1968 siege. Walk the former runway and bunkers while your guide explains one of the war’s longest and most intense battles.

Midday Break
Savor a delicious Vietnamese set-menu lunch at a local restaurant (vegetarian and other dietary options available on request).

Afternoon Highlights – Symbols of Division and Resilience

6. Hien Luong Bridge & Ben Hai River (17th Parallel)
Stand on the exact line that once divided Vietnam into North and South for 21 years. Walk across the beautifully restored “Peace Bridge,” view the original loudspeakers and guard posts, and learn how families separated by the border stayed connected across the river.

7. Vinh Moc Tunnels & Museum
The undisputed highlight of the day. Descend into this incredible underground village where more than 600 local people lived for years, completely beneath the earth, to escape the heaviest bombing in history. Explore the remarkably well-preserved living quarters, meeting rooms, maternity ward (where 17 babies were born underground), and ventilation shafts — a true testament to human endurance and ingenuity.

Return to Hue: Approximately 6:00 PM.
We’ll have you back at your hotel in central Hue by early evening, leaving you with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s complex past and its journey toward peace.
